INTR 1400 – Interpreting II

This course continues to explore English and ASL skills associated with interpretation through discussion and enhancement activities. Discourse styles of English and ASL are analyzed.

Assignment: English story written on paper and translate it to ASL.

Hunting can be a very popular sport for both men and women. While some folks in the North hunt pheasant and quail, those in the South and West may hunt deer.

Those who hunt birds frequently go out in the field with one or two dogs or sometimes even a pack of them.  The dogs sit quietly at their masters’ feet waiting for the command to go and retrieve the bird.  The hunters stand waiting for the flock of birds to fly overhead, aim, and fire.

If they are lucky enough to get a bird or birds, they command the dog or dogs to retrieve them.  At that point, the dogs run through the field or into the water to retrieve the birds and then bring them back to their owners.

Deer hunting is very different than bird hunting. Deer hunting can be done by just walking through the woods and tracking a deer.

While some may think hunting is a cruel sport, hunters see it as humane and necessary.  Helping to keep the animal population under control and reducing the number of animals that starve to death because of limited food resources.
